FK8
'Precision. Power. Perfection'
2017–2021
Launched in 1997, the EK9 was Honda’s first Civic to wear the Type R badge. Built exclusively for Japan, it combined a lightweight chassis with a 1.6L VTEC engine that screamed to 8,000 rpm. It set the foundation for every Type R that followed.

Performance highlights
The FK8 redefined what a front-wheel-drive car could achieve. With its revised suspension geometry, adaptive dampers, and finely tuned aerodynamics, it combined brutal grip with razor-sharp precision. Every part of the FK8 was engineered to deliver feedback and balance, whether carving through corners or attacking a circuit. In 2017, it set a new Nürburgring lap record for front-wheel-drive cars — 7:43.80 — and went on to break lap records at Suzuka, Silverstone, and Estoril. These achievements made it one of the most decorated Type Rs in history. Beyond the numbers, the FK8 earned universal praise from journalists and drivers alike. It was celebrated for its driver engagement, control, and the rare ability to blend aggression with usability. For many enthusiasts, the FK8 represented the perfect balance of modern engineering and old-school Honda spirit.
