'Evolved by Tradition'

2022–Present

Launched in 1997, the EK9 was Honda’s first Civic to wear the Type R badge. Built exclusively for Japan, it combined a lightweight chassis with a 1.6L VTEC engine that screamed to 8,000 rpm. It set the foundation for every Type R that followed.

Performance highlights

The FL5 refines everything that made the FK8 great. Its lighter flywheel, stiffer chassis, and retuned suspension create an even more precise and confidence-inspiring drive. The new body design improves aerodynamics and stability at high speed while maintaining a subtle, mature look compared to its predecessor. In 2023, the FL5 set a new lap record for a front-wheel-drive car at Suzuka Circuit, proving that Honda’s relentless pursuit of performance never stops. It’s a car engineered by racers, for drivers — rewarding skill and precision above all else. The FL5 also marks the global unification of the Type R brand — the same car sold in Japan, Europe, and North America for the first time. With its balance of refinement, power, and engagement, the FL5 stands as the ultimate evolution of Honda’s Type R philosophy.
